about Jenny
The root of most people’s unhappiness or unease has to do with relationship problems – with others, the environment, or with themselves. I am a good example:
I grew up with friends, family, and plenty of activities, but lacked real self-confidence. I hid this by working hard to be great in my activities, sports, school, and work. Love, friendship, and approval were things I felt I had to earn or make happen. This seemed like a fine life until I ran myself ragged trying to do it all.
Like many people, my frayed edges were hidden to the world and most evident at home. My husband Tom and I were on a hamster wheel trying fill up what was missing. We had years of arguing and multiple marriage therapies. I usually felt put upon and resentful – and avoided these feelings through intense physical activity and hard work. Eventually exhausted, I became allergic to a bunch of foods, gained weight, lost stamina, and in one of my worst moments, broke my leg in a skiing accident.
I couldn’t walk normally or without pain for a few years – even with surgery and lots of physical therapy. So, I added the Feldenkrais Method® into my therapy. Slowly, eventually, I began to recover. Convinced by feeling lighter and having less pain following Feldenkrais lessons, I enrolled in a training program to become a practitioner. The Feldenkrais Method® is a combination of physical touch and movement that helps to repattern the mind and nervous system so that you have greater freedom and ability in your thoughts, emotions, and physical body. During my training, I not only recovered, but also exceeded my previous abilities.
Now I can do what I want without wearing myself out or getting hurt. My recovery wasn’t just physical. My relationships today are fulfilling and deeply connected. I look forward to what life brings me. I no longer over work myself… and ironically and I’m more productive and satisfied. I finally figured how to get what I want – by learning how to listen to my body. I now feel and look stronger, more capable, and younger than I have in a long time.
I’m grateful to serve clients who want to improve their relationships – with significant others, family, friends, work colleagues, and most importantly with themselves – body, mind, and spirit. I can help do this through a combination of counseling, hypnotherapy, marriage or other relationship therapy, somatic body work and movement.
