Therapeutic Techniques

My approach is eclectic, drawing from several different schools of therapy. I will tailor the work depending on the individual, couple, or family trying to meet their unique needs, life experience, and situation.

I ask clients to set concrete goals so that we may use those as a benchmark for whether or not the therapy is progressing. We will assess progress together on a periodic basis to determine if the course of therapy is correct or needs adjusting.
Therapeutic schools and techniques that I use include:

  • Heart Centered Hypnotherapy: An eclectic approach that uses the bellow mentioned techniques in conjunction with a light trance state so that clients may 1: become aware of what is keeping them stuck more quickly, 2: clear out past incidents and belief systems that contribute to being stuck, 3:implant healing and positive suggestions into the client's unconscious mind. Click for more information on Heart Centered Hypnotherapy.
  •  Systems approach: Considering family and relationship dynamics, family history, and other systems or communities involved in clients’ lives
  • Adlerian: An educational approach that says people are doing the best they can with the information and experience they already have. This approach adds “techniques to your bag of tricks” for improving the dilemmas of freedom and authority, discipline, and improving relationships. An important school for improving parenting techniques and parent-child relationships
  • Cognitive behavioral: Understanding and retraining our “thinking brain” to positively effect emotions, feelings, and behaviors
  • Jungian: Examining the unconscious relationships or drives behind what we do. Also using dream work, sand tray, art or play, to find answers in our own unconscious. Finding our connection to the universe and mankind as a whole
  • Narrative therapies: Telling our stories and learning to re-work these for positive outcomes
  • Gestalt: using what is happening in the moment to deepen experience

I am a proponent of self help (bibliotherapy) and other methods of self care and can refer clients to some other avenues.  My goal for clients is that they will learn about the healing qualities within themselves so that they may find joy and contribute love and positive energy to the people  and activities in their lives. I want them to feel more capable and successful and to move forward. As a counselor, it is with gravity and privilege that I witness my clients’ life journeys.
