Therapy for Trauma and Loss
People respond to trauma or very difficult life events in many different ways. They may experience flashbacks, extreme anxiety or paranoia, physical symptoms, and other disturbing reactions. The best outcome is when a person can cognitively, emotionally, and physically, process “what happened” and then internalize this information in such a way that the trauma or fear of trauma no longer impacts his/her life and choices.
Successful trauma work means that people move through and past fear (being "frozen" or in an activated state) and can return to normal life. Optimally, it means learning new tools so that they can use the trauma as an opportunity to help them to move on to a fuller, richer existence.
